An absolutely gorgeous and ultra rare Arnold Scaasi custom couture colorful watercolor floral print silk dress and matching golden yellow satin jacket dating back to his 1958 spring/summer collection. Scaasi started his career designing for Charles James. From James, Scaasi developed his idea of the body as an armature for biomorphic geometry during the same era that Saint Laurent at Dior was creating the pure geometry of the trapeze. Over the years, Scaasi's client list grew to include such icons as Elizabeth Taylor, Barbra Streisand, Mary Tyler Moore and Jacqueline Kennedy. This glamorous ensemble is such a beautiful example of his genius. The strapless bodice is fully-boned and has an elegant bustier curve to the shape. I love the bow-belted nipped hourglass with asymmetric ruffle detailing. So incredibly figure flattering! The stylized charm of the matching short-sleeve swing coat personifies 'Old Hollywood' luxury. Just look how the silk lining matching the dress perfectly. These early American couturier pieces are rare, as they were not mass produced and were incredibly expensive to make. This stunning piece of fashion history would make an unforgettable red carpet, wedding guest or Met Gala look. The pictures say it all.
