  • 1977 Ungaro Haute Couture Runway Colorful Silk Kimono-Sleeve Tunic Blouse & Skirt Ensemble

    ID: 1109252
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

An extraordinary rare Emanuel Ungaro documented colorful silk kimono-sleeve blouse with matching skirt ensemble dating back to his spring-summer 1977 haute couture collection. Emanuel Ungaro, one of Paris’s most gifted designers, began his career working under Cristóbal Balenciaga and Courrèges before founding his own couture house in 1965. He quickly became known for his daring use of color, bold prints, and sensuous draping. This look made its debut on the runway worn by Pat Cleveland, one of the era’s most celebrated and groundbreaking original supermodels. It was also featured in a 1977 Spanish fashion magazine highlighting the season’s most exceptional haute couture designs. The ensemble’s rainbow color palette is strikingly vibrant and architectural, combining emerald green silk satin for the bodice and epic kimono sleeves, bordered in black and rich crimson red bands that emphasize the geometric silhouette. The kimono sleeves are pure magic; they look incredible with movement. The skirting, a work of art in itself, features a unique graphic print reminiscent of modern architectural art. The best part is the dramatic side slits that reveal the magnificent yellow skirt underneath as a clever surprise for another color. The interplay of pattern and color-blocking creates visual movement and structure while maintaining a fluid, flattering silhouette.  Crafted entirely by hand, the garment features exquisite side-hooks and a hidden underarm zipper construction; a testament to the precision of Ungaro’s atelier. This custom couture Ungaro embodies the designer’s fearless aesthetic. Both avant-garde and timeless, it remains a true collector’s piece and would make a remarkable statement at any party, gallery opening, or museum gala. A rare and radiant moment in 1970's French haute couture history.
