An incredibly rare and highly coveted John Galliano sheer red flocked velvet and lycra asymmetric bias-cut gown from his beloved 1991 spring/summer 'Honcho Woman' collection. As shown, the beautiful Marie Sophie Wilson walked down the runway in this iconic look. These early runway examples of his work are extremely collectable and are becoming so hard to find. Pieces like this are also a very important chapter in his design journey because it pre-dates his years at Christian Dior and Givenchy. John Galliano is widely considered one of the most innovative and influential fashion designers of the early twenty-first century. He mingled his references in often surprising juxtapositions to create extravagant yet intricately engineered and meticulously tailored clothes. This specular dress is everything you look for in early Galliano fashion. The fabrication and color play is so well executed; the sheer red flocked velvet works immensely well with yellow and aqua hues of the lycra underlay. The unique asymmetric neckline is wider on the left side with a chic cut-out right above the breast! My favorite design element is the fitted bias-cut flowing into a dramatic heavily gathered bubble hemline. The movement is seriously sensational and really lets the large-scale flocked velvet pattern shine. A precious piece of documented fashion history.

This 1991 John Galliano documented runway gown presents beautifully with some signs of age. Though very strong, the lycra underlay has slightly discolored in a few places. This isn't immediately noticeable and actually blends in well. There are a few repairs to the flocked velvet. The fabric is very delicate and mixed with the historical nature of the piece we suggest it to be used for study, display or photoshoots. Garment slips on with no additional hooks or zippers. Original early John Galliano label in place.
