This ultra rare, magnificent midnight blue silk bias-cut gown, dating back to Karl Lagerfeld's dreamy 2002 Cruise Collection, is a perfect example of why this fashion house has a worldwide following. The Chanel Cruise collections are inspired by Gabrielle Chanel's love for sailing; her passion for the sport led to her inception of a 'cruise' collection in the 1920's. They eventually fell off in popularity and it was not until Karl Lagerfeld took over as creative director at Chanel that the cruise collections started again. The fabrics used for this glorious midnight blue gown are magnificent; a mid-weight stretch silk jersey mixed with 'light as a feather' sheer silk chiffon. I love the nod to 1930's fashion with the easy to wear yet glamorous approach. The wide scoop neck bodice has a chic side CC logo while the other shoulder has beautiful looping panels that drape over your arm or loop through. At the top of that same shoulder sits a stunning silk chiffon and tulle floral appliqué. The same style drape chiffon panel curves over both the front and back hourglass bodice. The bias-cut skirting hugs your body in the most flattering way and the bottom half has fantastic transparency with the sheer chiffon panels. A truly timeless, archival Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel look that will become a forever favorite.
