An iconic and very important silver, black and transparent crystal sautoir necklace handmade by Robert Goossens for the House of Chanel. The beautiful elements used to create this signed masterpiece date back to the 1930's, as many couture jewelry houses reusing older luxury components.

Robert Goossens was a true artist and one of the last great masters of the golden age of costume jewelry. He is most well known for his magical collaboration with Coco Chanel, commencing in the mid 1950s and continuing through to her death. Chanel gave him a freedom of expression, he was able to realize and affirm her wonderful vision- he felt that this collaboration with Chanel was the highest point and recounted many tales of it throughout his later life.

A similar necklace with the same Chanel tag dating back to 1954 is featured on page 107 "Jewelry by Chanel" written by Patrick Mauries. Another publication, "Maison Goossens: Haute Couture Jewelry" written by Patrick Mauries, said that Chanel approached Maison Degorce in 1954, and they called upon Goossens' services to execute her designs from 1954 until 1957 when they closed. Goossens was designing for Chanel at Maison Degorce and would have had access to whatever older luxury components they had from their decades in business. A truly magnificent museum-quality signed couture necklace from Chanel's lifetime.
