  • 1954 Jean Dessès Haute Couture Attributed Pleated Yellow Silk-Chiffon Draped Gown

An extremely well-documented and museum quality Jean Dessès attributed pale yellow pleated gown dating back to the mid-1950's. This incredible dress was sold at Marie Therese of Nice which acted as a couture retailer authorized to construct and sell Paris haute couture. The Marie Therese label can be found in major museums like the V&A in London and the MET in New York. In researching, I even found a dress designed by Hubert de Givenchy for Grace Kelly that was executed by Marie Therese. This breathtaking gown was commissioned by a very wealthy American woman named Fay D. Conyoumjan. Her jewels that sold at Doyle Auction went for tens of thousands each; as shown the Cartier brooch she's wearing with this gown went for well over $40,000.
Jean Dessés designs are rare, unique and highly collectible. Jean Desses is one of the most important designers of the 20th century and was a designated Haute Couture house under the official Chambre Syndicate de la Couture. Fashioned from exquisite pale yellow silk chiffon, this showstopper has everything you look for when searching for this designer. The fully boned corset bodice has complex pleatwork in different directions to completely flatter the figure. The hourglass nipped waist flows into yards and yards of draped skirting. The asymmetric concept reads so modern and looks breathtaking when you walk. The workmanship and time spent to design this masterpiece is astonishing. A true piece of French fashion history. We added any pictures so one can appreciate this masterful achievement.

    Measurements
    Bust: 33-34 inches
    Waist: 24 inches
    Hips: up to 38 inches
    Total Length: 59 inches

This stunning Jean Dessès at Marie Therese of Nice Paris gown is in excellent wearable condition. Presents beautifully. The garment closes with a painted back hand-set metal zipper. There is gorgeous corset boning throughout the bodice to keep the hourglass shape. After close inspection we found some minor spots near the bottom hemline. Please message for detailed pictures. Due to the extreme rarity of this special piece, archival cleaning left to the purchaser. All hand-finished and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
