The vibrant rainbow-stripe used on this ivory silk rayon 1930's "Cartwright" designer dress ensemble has a whimsical allure that I find irresistible. The sleeveless bodice has a flirty middle cut out while the backside has a chic criss-cross. The mock-blouse design ends at a high-waist, where it breaks into a sculpted full-length skirt. The eight-panel piece work to create the skirting in particular is quite extraordinary. The stylized charm of the matching wide-cuff jacket makes it a statement piece in it's own right. Just look at the detailed back pleated! This figure flattering ensemble accentuates the bust, skims the hip and perfectly captures that causal "Old Hollywood" starlet style. It is very rare to find 1930's dress sets that, through time, stay together.
