A truly breathtaking and ultra rare 1986 Travilla designer couture blue silk jersey goddess gown which happened to also be Whitney Houston's choice design for the 28th Grammy Awards where she won for best female vocal performance. William Travilla designed costumes for films and also opened his own salon with best friend Bill Sarris. The designs in his collection became known for their "California" fashion as they were comfortable, elegant clothes that did not have the rigidness and restrictions like the haute couture Paris creations. From the one-shoulder bodice to the intricate beaded graphic looped design, this Grecian inspired gown is spectacular. The color is that perfect vibrant sky-blue and because he uses a genius draping effect, the gown has a real feeling of depth and richness. I love the asymmetric construction and "easy-to-wear" silhouette. Whitney Houston's actual Travilla dress was auctioned off at Julien’s for over $20,000. That in itself truly makes this design a fashion collector’s dream and an amazing acquisition for channeling Houston’s vibe for any special occasion. Very chic, incredibly beautiful and totally timeless.
