Breathtaking Pierre Balmain haute couture runway gown from when Oscar de la Renta was head designer. The House of Balmain always creates a very sculptural quality which is allied with a ladylike essence. This sheer illusion showstopper from their 1998 spring/summer collection is a wonderful example of the brand's genius. The bodice has lean, long see-through sleeves and a hand-crafted leaf motif appliqué. This same style nude illusion appliqué work is repeated on the backside with matching covered button detail. The artistry gives a strength to the silhouette. The large-scale soutache embroidery with nude underlay really catches the eye and takes the idea of a red carpet gown to new levels. The scalloped hemline is the icing on the cake. Overall construction is true couture level as one would expect from such a skilled fashion house. A timeless museum quality show-stopper.
