  • 1978 Halston Couture Dark Green Velvet & Ivory Silk Ruffle Bodice Bias-Cut Gown

    ID: 0317251
    Size: medium
    Condition: excellent

An ultra rare and truly breathtaking Halston couture forest-green silk velvet and ivory satin bias-cut evening gown dating back to the late 1970's. Halston revolutionized the way women dress and is one of the few designers, alongside Claire McCardell and Norman Norell, to define what is American fashion. Throughout most of the seventies he epitomized the glamour, as well as the decadence of the era, becoming a central figure in the nightlife scene of New York's Studio 54. This exquisite dress is a 1930's inspired design, reimagined through Halston’s signature lens of soft glamour and effortless elegance. Like a modern Ginger Rogers. The rich forest-green silk velvet is so luxurious and soft against the skin. The bodice features a cascading ivory satin waterfall ruffle bib starting at the top collar. A series of delicate hooks at the top of the collar offer a refined closure or it can be opened for a more seductive look. I love the lean, long cuffed sleeves, giving the gown a cohesive and polished feel. The bias-cut skirting gently hugs the figure perfectly and flows into a curved front slit. Halston was known for his flattering body-conscious clothing and this incredible look definitely delivers.

    Measurements
    (varies due to bias-cut)
    Bust: 36-40 inches
    Waist: 28-32 inches
    Hips: up to 42 inches
    Total Length: 60 inches

This highly coveted 1970's Halston couture gown is in beautiful condition with no rips, stains or holes. Complete with hidden front hook closures. A wearable work of art that will only go up in value.
