  • 1994 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Black Sheer Silk Chiffon Pink Cashmere Trimmed Maxi Dress w/ Shawl

    ID: 0325261
    Size: extra small - small
    Condition: excellent

This totally striking Chanel sheer black silk chiffon and shocking pink knit maxi dress with matching shawl dates back to Karl Lagerfeld’s 1994 fall/winter collection. A visionary force in fashion, Karl Lagerfeld redefined Chanel as creative director beginning in 1983, merging house codes with modern sensuality. His work throughout the 1990s revitalized Chanel’s identity, cementing its relevance for a new generation while honoring its heritage. Documented as runway Look 150 and modeled by Beverly Peele, this piece captures the era's bold, body-conscious elegance.

The silhouette is cut on the bias, skimming the figure before subtly releasing at the hem. The skirt is constructed from a double layer of sheer black silk chiffon that moves with a soft, weightless drape. This same double-layer technique is cleverly applied through the bust to provide coverage, shifting to a single sheer layer across the chest—creating a play on transparency that feels both daring and refined. The bodice is framed with vivid shocking pink trim in luxurious cashmere, edged with black for contrast. It fastens in the back and at the waist with small CC logo buttons, an understated yet unmistakable signature detail. Slender straps extend down from the upper shoulder to the waist, revealing a striking open-back construction that elongates the line of the body and adds an element of allure from every angle. The best feature is the matching sheer silk chiffon shawl, finished with the same black and hot pink striped cashmere trim. As seen both on the runway and styled here, you can wear it draped effortlessly around the arms, wrapped over the shoulders, around the neck, or even as a dramatic hooded headscarf—transforming the look with each gesture. It invites movement, and with it, a sense of theatricality that defined Lagerfeld’s time at Chanel. This is a rare documented piece of runway history from one of Chanel’s most defining decades.

This archival 1994 f/w Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld dress, complete with a matching shawl, is in beautiful condition with no rips, stains or alterations. It closes with a hidden back zipper and original Chanel logo buttons. Only signs of age are one pull on the cashmere trim and one pin-sized hole on the shawl. Please message for detailed pictures. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
