  • 1977 Halston Couture Gold Silver Beaded Silk Full-Length Dress Jacket

Halston revolutionized the way women dress and is one of the few designers, alongside Claire McCardell and Norman Norell, to define what is American fashion. Throughout most of the seventies he epitomized the glamour, as well as the decadence of the era, becoming a central figure in the nightlife scene of New York's Studio 54. He was known for his flattering body-conscious clothing in jersey and silks. This breathtaking heavily-beaded silk chiffon dress jacket from his 1977 collection is a perfect example of his genius. The whole garment is densely covered in metallic gold and silver glass beads hand-sewn onto a fine silk chiffon. The gorgeous geometric deco pattern used is wearable art at its finest. The complex design must have taken weeks to complete. The use of the semi-sheer black chiffon makes the dress jacket comfortable and fluid. That effect once on is perfection. The bodice has a gorgeous front plunge with relaxed slight dolman-sleeves. The sculpted cut flatters the figure and the full-length skirting whispers effortless luxurious. You can wear it has a sensational evening gown or has a statement jacket. A very sensual showstopper that will become a favorite in your wardrobe. Versions of this garment reside in The Metropolitan Museum collection and and another version was on display for the "Halston and Warhol: Silver and Suede Exhibit" in 2015. The pictures say it all.
