This ethereal John Galliano ivory silk chiffon and chantilly lace draped bias-cut gown dates back to his 2005 fall/winter collection. Galliano's romantic vision and fascination with historical dressing have made his creations some of the most coveted pieces in fashion. This particular collection was inspired by 1920s silver-screen sirens and Martin Scorsese's film 'The Aviator'. A more understated version of runway Look 29, modeled by Raquel Zimmermann, this dress offers a softer, romantic take with a distinct bridal aesthetic.
Fashioned from semi-sheer ivory silk chiffon with a second chiffon lining, the gown features Galliano's highly sought-after bias-cut silhouette, skimming the figure before gently flaring into a flowing ankle-length hem. Diagonal seamwork travels across the skirt, creating a lovely Art Deco vibe. Exquisite floral Chantilly lace covers the entire fitted bodice, which has a straight neckline beautifully finished with delicate eyelash edging. The intricate pattern stands out against the simplicity of the silk, while a wonderfully dramatic chiffon cowl hangs from the shoulders, dipping low across the waist. We especially love the chiffon strap arrangement: two rest over the shoulders and a separate halter wraps behind the neck. An additional chiffon panel drapes loosely over one upper arm, adding an unexpected touch of romance to the design. Hidden on the opposite side is a row of Galliano's signature covered side buttons, adding another stunning detail to the construction. Your upper back is left exposed, with the lace and draped cowl mirroring the front. An intricate semicircular arrangement of shirring gathers the silk at one hip, creating a wonderful effect before the fabric falls into the skirt. The feather light silk chiffon, fluid draping, and unmistakable 1930s influence come together in a design that feels both wonderfully feminine and distinctly Galliano.
