A highly coveted and truly divine Thea Porter couture pink glitter semi-sheer silk chiffon angel-sleeve wrap gown dating back to 1974. Thea Porter, a famous British fashion designer, was largely inspired by the Victorian and Renaissance eras. This is easily identifiable by her use of luxurious textiles and opulent construction. During the 1970's, her clothing attracted many celebrity customers who enjoyed wearing her erotic yet comfortable creations, whose secret was to conceal rather than reveal. Her clients, some of whom also became her friends, included Lauren Bacall, Mick Jagger, Sharon Tate, Elizabeth Taylor, and Pete Townshend.
This ethereal masterpiece, fashioned in sparkling rose pink lined semi-sheer silk chiffon, is such a magnificent example of her iconic bohemian chic aesthetic. The entire dress is adorned with the most impressive three dimensional glitter motif. When the gown catches the light it gives an incredible luminous effect. Produced by Bianchini-Férier, this special spangled fabric was beloved by Porter. This is possibly the most glamorous of all of Porter's key garments. As Laura Helms points out in the book,'Thea Porter-Bohemian Chic', "the wrap-over dress with sleeves to the floor was designed to make women look as slim as the sleeve itself (their dripping length creates the optical illusion of a body equally as long and lean). These dresses, which varied in style, were easy to wear and feather light, yet provided an elegance that far surpassed their slender form."
The wrap design creates an alluring low v-neckline that flows into a flattering nipped waist. My favorite design element has to be the dramatic elongated angel split-sleeves. They totally channel a magical goddess vibe. It was part of the exclusive limited line Porter created for the exclusive Giorgio boutique in Beverly Hills and these wrap-over gowns rarely come up on the market. This is such an ultra rare, exquisite couture gown made by the queen of the bohemian fashion movement.

This Thea Porter couture glitter spangled silk chiffon gown is in excellent condition and ready to wear. All hand finished. A same style is featured on pages 52/53 in the book "Thea Porter: Bohemian Chic" by Laura McLaws Helms and Venetia Porter. Additionally, a very similar version was on display in 2015 at London’s Fashion And Textile Museum. Though the Thea Porter label is no longer present, the Giorgio boutique in Beverly Hills luckily remains. Only signs of wear are one small repair to the back skirt and a few very faint spots which are not noticeable when worn. Please message for detailed pictures. Highly wearable and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
