  • 1982 Halston Runway Beaded Sheer Illusion Champagne Lace Backless Halter Wrap Gown

    ID: 1017261
    Size: medium
    Condition: very good

An absolutely breathtaking and incredibly iconic Halston beaded lace backless halter wrap gown from his 1982 resort runway collection. Roy Halston Frowick revolutionized American fashion in the 1970s, becoming synonymous with the glamour of Studio 54 and dressing some of the era's most iconic women, including Liza Minnelli, Bianca Jagger and Elizabeth Taylor. His genius was in creating clothes that felt effortless yet incredibly luxurious, from his fluid fabrics and masterful draping to his lavishly beaded creations that brought an entirely different dimension of glamour to his designs. This gown is a perfect example of his aesthetic.

We were thrilled to document this exact design walking down the runway modeled by Carla Araque. The gown features a deep plunging V-neckline halter that highlights your cleavage while leaving your back entirely bare. The bodice gathers slightly into a nipped waist, accented by horizontal bands of beadwork that flatter the figure. The classic Halston wrap-style skirt features overlapping front panels that create a dramatic high slit, revealing as much leg as you desire. We especially love how the skirt falls into an elongated point at the back. The entire gown is fully lined in delicate organdy, providing a beautiful foundation for the intricate beadwork, which is definitely the highlight. The semi-sheer ivory openwork lace is covered in swirling Art Deco-inspired motifs, meticulously outlined in pearl beads and shimmering silver bugle beads. These intricate patterns travel across the bodice and down the entire skirt, interspersed with vertical rows that elongate the figure. Fine netting peeks through between the designs, adding glimpses of skin and another dimension to the exquisite craftsmanship.
Halston incorporated this distinctive spiral pattern into several pieces from the collection, but this fully beaded wrap gown was undoubtedly the standout! Actress Dakota Fanning actually wore the design to the 2012 GLAAD Media Awards, and coincidentally Lady Gaga also chose the dress for a KIIS FM event the following year. Three decades later, two different pop culture icons—proving just how relevant Halston's designs will always be.
This is a truly exceptional piece of American fashion history. We especially adore the idea of wearing it as a bridal look. Imagine the shimmering beadwork catching the light at the wedding reception! Whether you choose it for your special day or for any glamorous event, this is the kind of archival treasure that deserves another unforgettable moment in the spotlight.
