  • 1993 Vivienne Westwood Runway Metallic Foiled Denim Corset Bustier & Matching Pants

    ID: 0413262
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

This highly coveted Vivienne Westwood metallic coated denim corset with matching pants dates back to her beloved 1993 spring/summer 'Grand Hotel' collection. Vivienne Westwood rose from London’s punk scene to become one of the most influential designers of the late 20th century, redefining fashion through historical reference and rebellion. Her work challenged conventions of tailoring and femininity, leaving a lasting impact that continues to shape contemporary design. Presented at Le Grand Hôtel in Paris, this work marked a pivotal moment—most notably the first time Westwood herself stepped onto the runway to model her own work. The metallic foiled denim looks were among the most memorable. One was later featured in the March 1993 issue of Vogue Paris, and immortalized on screen when Angelina Jolie wore a similar ensemble in Hackers just a few years later.

The seductive corset delivers a distinctly futuristic vision, sculpting the body through a sharply contoured silhouette that feels both engineered and deliberate. The main iridescent coated denim shifts between teal and violet, whereas the side panels that curve around to the back have oil-slick tones. The structure is revealed rather than hidden—internal boning traced along the exterior in precise red topstitching, creating a graphic framework that defines the waist and elongates the torso. The neckline sits wide and slightly off-shoulder, highlighting the collarbone, while the back features an exposed zipper that reinforces the industrial undertone of the design. The matching pants continue that narrative with equal precision. Cut in a nipped waist silhouette, they follow the line of the leg before releasing slightly at the ankle, where turned cuffs allow you to control the length to your liking. The seams are intentionally reversed and outlined in the same red stitching, giving the piece a raw, inside-out sensibility that aligns with Westwood’s punk aesthetic.

Early 90’s Westwood has become increasingly sought-after, particularly pieces that capture this intersection of rebellion and craftsmanship. This example stands as a true collector’s piece—documented, culturally relevant, and instantly recognizable to those who understand her legacy. Whether styled for a fashion-forward event or held as part of a serious archive, it carries the kind of presence that defines an era and still feels ahead of its time.
