  • 2004 Alexander McQueen 'Deliverance' Collection Ivory Silk Cut-Out Backless Jumpsuit

    ID: 0310262
    Size: small - medium
    Condition: excellent

This hauntingly beautiful Alexander McQueen ivory silk cut-out backless jumpsuit is from his beloved spring/summer 2004 collection, titled 'Deliverance'. Lee Alexander McQueen was one of fashion’s most visionary designers, celebrated for combining razor-sharp tailoring with emotionally charged runway storytelling. He rose to global prominence in the 1990s with collections that challenged conventions and blurred the line between fashion, performance, and art. This collection remains one of McQueen’s most unforgettable runway spectacles. Inspired by the 1969 Sydney Pollack film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, the show was staged in a nineteenth-century Parisian dance hall and choreographed by dancer Michael Clark. Models performed as contestants in a 1930s dance marathon, pushing to their bodies to the point of exhaustion—McQueen's powerful metaphor for the relentless pace of the fashion industry. When this look appeared, the model seemed on the brink of collapse, carried poetically across the stage by her dance partner.

Cut from luxurious candlelight ivory silk, the silhouette is both fluid and unexpected. At first glance it reads as a glamorous sweeping evening gown, the fabric falling in soft folds that pool elegantly to the floor. Yet the design reveals itself as a jumpsuit with ultra wide flowing pantlegs that create spectacular motion with every step. The stunning bodice features a softly curved wide neckline with open shoulders framed by slender straps. Delicate winged flutter sleeves fall from the shoulders, adding even more gentle movement. At the waist, dramatic, large, rounded cut-outs carve inward along the sides, revealing just enough skin before sweeping around to an entirely bare backless design. From behind, it's even more striking. The rear end features sharp, deco-inspired seams that frame the lower silhouette, subtly sculpting and flattering your form while highlighting McQueen’s mastery of tailoring and structure. This archival McQueen is so photogenic.

Alexander McQueen lifetime collections are increasingly sought after by collectors, particularly those tied to his most theatrical runway presentations. Runway looks from 'Deliverance' capture the emotion that defined his work. Whether worn for a red carpet moment or by an unconventional bride, this piece offers a rare opportunity to own a truly unforgettable example of McQueen’s artistry.
