This rare John Galliano large-scale deco floral bias-cut slip dress, dating back to his 2004 spring/summer collection, is the perfect day to night look. Galliano built his reputation on transforming historical references into wearable modern fashion through masterful draping, inventive textiles, and an unmistakable sense of romance.
The standout feature of this dress is the remarkable silk chiffon print. Against a black ground, oversized golden-yellow bearded irises bloom among olive-green foliage and playful red, green, and marigold deco dots. The end result is a creative composition that feels both graphic and painterly. Interestingly, we found that Galliano used this print design for two looks in his Christian Dior Fall 2003 Haute Couture collection, showing how ideas often flowed between his own label and the House of Dior. Cut on the bias, the sheer silk chiffon skims the body beautifully while a silk lining provides coverage without compromising the fabric's fluid movement. Fine slip straps frame a soft V-neckline before the silhouette falls to a mini length. A cascading chiffon ruffle, edged in delicate black lace, begins at the neckline and sweeps diagonally across the bodice to one hip. It then continues across the opposite side of the skirt, wrapping around both the front and back. The same lace trim finishes the hemline, giving the dress a lingerie-style finish. Equal parts playful and elegant, this is the perfect 'go to' archival dress—whether you're headed to a garden party, a destination vacation, or just a chic night out.
