  • 2012 Christian Dior by John Galliano Cruise Collection Ruby Red Silk Draped Backless Bias-Cut Gown

    ID: 0217262
    Size: medium
    Condition: excellent

This commanding and incredibly elegant Christian Dior ruby red silk draped backless bias-cut floor length gown dates back to John Galliano's 2012 cruise collection. Appointed creative director of the house in 1996, Galliano reinvigorated Dior with theatrical storytelling and impeccable technique, blending historic references with modern seduction. Over his fifteen-year tenure, he reasserted the maison’s couture authority, often referencing the past while sharpening it for a contemporary woman. Pieces from this 2012 Cruise Collection, which have Galliano's unmistakable touch, are significant because they were designed before his departure from Dior in March 2011 and published by Vogue less than two months after he was fired.

Fashioned in a saturated ruby red silk, the color alone catches attention the moment you enter a room. Cut on the bias, the gown skims the body with fluid precision, tracing the waist and hips. The sleeveless design is anchored by a clean bateau neckline that frames the collarbone and fastens discreetly at the back of the neck with two hidden snaps. As you move, the silk falls in a continuous line before releasing into a graceful flare, pooling softly at the floor and elongating your frame. The gown closes with Galliano’s signature covered buttons, a refined nod to the beloved 1930s aesthetic. Turn around and the drama unfolds. The fabric plunges into a low scoop that dips toward the waist in a fluid drape, revealing your back in one uninterrupted gesture. It folds inward at the base, creating a soft cowl effect that contrasts with the gown’s tailored front. It's the kind of detail that leaves a lasting impression long after you exit a room. Pieces from Galliano’s era at Christian Dior continue to gain recognition for their craftsmanship and vision, and this gown offers you the opportunity to own a striking example of that legacy.
