This memorable and totally unique 2012 fall/winter Gucci heavily embellished sheer black pleated tulle gown is our favorite new arrival. This collection was designed by Frida Giannini, whose romantic yet sensual aesthetic brought renewed elegance to the house while reintroducing a softer vision of modern femininity. Seen on the runway as Look 44 modeled by Sigrid Agren, this breathtaking gown was also selected for Gucci's fall advertising campaign worn by Nadja Bender. Additionally, supermodel and 'original Gucci girl' Kate Moss famously wore the design for the June/July 2012 issue of Harper's Bazaar that year.
Executed in layers of the softest sheer black net-tulle, the gown has a fluid Grecian quality that moves beautifully. The angular bodice drapes diagonally across the figure, revealing strategically placed sections of nude illusion crafted from a more structured sheer tulle. A luxurious silk lining underneath provides comfort while maintaining the design's weightless appearance. The silhouette skims the body before releasing into a sweeping full-length skirt composed of finely pleated panels. Nearly hidden openings within the skirting offer subtle glimpses of leg as you walk, creating exquisite movement and enhancing the gown's sensual appeal. The neckline and cap sleeves are equally considered. Transparent tulle extends across the shoulders and upper bodice, allowing the dress's best feature to truly shine: the extraordinary embellishment! Dark purple, elongated, leaf-shaped paillettes in varying sizes and shapes have been meticulously arranged into cascading floral motifs that wind across the gown like flowering vines. Gold paillettes and rhinestones are mixed throughout, providing subtle flashes of light and contrasting color. The reverse is just as captivating. A plunging illusion back is accented with softly draped tulle that sweeps diagonally across the body, while floral appliqués continue across the shoulders and waistline.
With runway, campaign, and editorial provenance all attached to the same garment, this is one of those increasingly scarce pieces that perfectly represents an important moment in Gucci history. Whether you are building a serious fashion archive or searching for an unforgettable evening gown, this is the dress you buy once and treasure forever.
