  • 1968 Norman Norell Light-Pink Silk Jeweled Maltese Cross Belted Tunic Pantsuit

A breathtaking Norman Norell Couture pink silk three-piece pantsuit dating back to his iconic 1968 collection. As pictured, the identical ensemble was recently exhibited and also held in the premantly collection at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This gorgeous garment, in luxorious light-pink heavy silk, exemplifies his signature blend of couture-level with quintessentially American style. It is easy to see the level of quality in this piece; the tailored is exquisite. The over-sized jewels are hand-beaded together in a gorgeous Maltese Cross design, set extremely close together to mirror that of an actual pendent. The blouse is a classic tunic design complete with lean, long sleeves and belted waist. As pointed out in the book "Couture: The Great Designers", Norell had a profound influence on the ready-to-wear industry and on younger American designers by insisting that off-the-rack clothing be as fine as made-to-order. The masterful design and superb quality of this showstopper more than meets his exacting standards.

    Measurements
    Tunic Bust: 37-38 inches
    Waist: 32 inches
    Total Length: 27 inches
    Pants Waist: 30 inches
    Inseam: 27.5 inches
    Total Length: 39 inches

This 1968 Norman Norell couture designer ensemble is in very good wearable condition and presents beautifully. Perfectly working back zipper. Signs of wear are faint fading by the top shoulders and some spots on the matching pants. I was told that this particular Norell outfit is the deaccessioned from the Brooklyn Museum, donated to the museum by Mildred Custin who was the former director of Bonwit Teller. This rare pantsuit is over 50 years old and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
