Breathtaking Pierre Balmain Paris black velvet swing coat dating back to his 1951 Fall/Winter collection. Pierre Balmain worked under Robert Pigiuet, Molyneux, and Lucian Lelong, where he worked closely with Christian Dior. In 1945 is finally opened his own couture house. Balmain created a very sculptural quality which was always allied with a ladylike essence. His garments have a body and a shape of their own. The silk-velvet fabric used is of the highest quality; the bold circular buttons adds gorgeous 3-dimensional texture. I love the dramatic cuffed wide bell-sleeves. This figure flattering garment accentuates the bust, skims the hip and flairs out in such an elegant swing construction. Balmain's glamorous garments were worn by the likes of Bridget Bardot, Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich and I can surely see why.
