Hattie Carnegie is very often associated with elegance and high fashion. Carnegie’s fashion philosophy is summed up as "the woman should wear the clothes, not the clothes wear the woman." Her clothes were particularly popular in California, and many movie stars were known to wear Carnegie’s creations. This helped spread her reputation and establish her as a tastemaker across the country. This breathtaking gown, dating back to the early 1950's, is a perfect example of her genius. The fabric mix itself is a masterpiece; large scale rose floral patterned black French lace with white silk-organza underlay. The strapless bodice is hand-pleated and hand-stitched into place with interior boning. I love the asymmetric lace design and hourglass nipped-waist! The full-length skirt flows in a perfect "Old Hollywood" swing style. Truly, this garment would have taken days to finish. A pure work of art and a study in dressmaking technique. Breathtaking and timeless; I totally imagine this gliding down the red carpet.
