The first Versace boutique was opened in 1978 and its popularity was immediate. Today, Versace is one of the world's leading international fashion houses. Gianni Versace redefined fashion by combining it with rock 'n' roll, art and celebrity. By merging the worlds of fashion and entertainment, his shows became pop-culture events. This absolutely stunning yellow hourglass gown, custom made for Oscar-winning actress Goldie Hawn back in 1998, is a wonderful example of the brand's genius. The cost to commission a detailed dress like this back then well exceeded $30,000. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; the highest quality semi-sheer silk chiffon which has been elaborately embroidered and beaded in a stunning floral motif. The embellishments alone must have taken weeks to complete. This graceful yet seductive gown has thin straps with two rows of handsewn Swarovski crystals. The matching long wrap with chic scalloped edges is also trimmed in Swarovski crystals. I love the ultra flattering low-cut scoopneck corset-boned hourglass shape which is a signature Versace touch. My favorite design element is the tiered slightly-trained skirting which gives the piece just the right amount of weight for the most elegant movement. We added many pictures so you can appreciate this masterful achievement. A true museum quality couture creation by Atelier Versace that you will treasure for years and years to come.
