1940's Marcelle Dormoy French Couture Silk Sculpted Low Back Gown

 A breathtaking and incredibly rare early 1940's full-length gown by French couturier Marcelle Dormoy. She started out as a model for Paul Poiret, which she credited with helping her learn to "understand the female body". During the 1920's, Dormoy worked with Vionnet alongside other designers such as Jacques Griffe and Marcelle Chaumont. As première d'atelier, she was head of the workroom at Vionnet until she left to launch her own couture house in 1928. This beautiful gown, fashioned in luxurious jet-black silk satin, is a wonderful example of Marcelle Dormoy's genius. The bodice has gorgeous sculpted side cut-outs with a front key-hole and a chic thin strap around the neck. I adore the low sash-belt backside. Her skilled full-length skirting has tons of movement and the effect is incredibly flattering to the figure. You do not easily find this level of workmanship on garments today.
