An absolutely breathtaking and incredibly rare Rosalie Macrini custom couture marigold and coral watercolor floral silk-faille hourglass draped gown dating back to the mid 1950's. Rosalie Macrini had her start designing for the famous Barbara Costume Company in New York, going on to buy the business in 1954. Macrini was best known for opulent evening looks and for her unique use of extravagant fabrics. As you can see, this designer was heavily influenced by Elsa Schiaparelli. Alluring French inspired fashion pieces from this period are truly coveted and this one is a showstopper. The fabric used is of the highest quality; lightweight watercolor floral printed silk-faille with the finest organza lining to add wonderful structure. The form fitting bodice has a one shoulder pleated strap which flows down the back into a dramatic trained skirt sash. The intricate ruching along the bodice is also mirrored in the sculptural skirting. So lovely! The fitted nipped-waist with oversized back bow detail transforms the garment into a true wearable work of art. This epic mid-century custom couture gown would make such an unforgettable red carpet look.
