The House of Dior has been an enduring icon of Haute-Couture. While the House of Dior is still a thriving business today, Dior's untimely death in 1957 left the fashion world without a great dictator of style. Christian Dior designed under his own name for only a decade, but his influence is everlasting. Here is a rare opportunity to own a breathtaking 1955 Christian Dior design commissioned by a private client before he passed away. The cocktail dress is fashioned in luxurious jet-black silk velvet. I love the alluring low-cut scoopneck bodice with lean, long sleeves. The hourglass nipped-waist flows into complex silk pleatwork which really dazzles the eye. As Dior himself once said, "Elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity." This iconic show-stopper is a wonderful mix of these elements.
