Yma Sumac (1922–2008) was a noted Peruvian soprano and the original Queen of Exotica. Her International fame began in the early 1950's. She was one of the most famous proponents of exotica music. She is remembered best for her extraordinary vocal range, which was well over four and a half octaves. She was also quite the fashionista, and in 2010 'V' fashion magazine voted her one of the top 5 World Muses! This stunning bubble-gum pink silk jersey custom couture ensemble comes from her personal wardrobe. The fabrication is truly breathtaking; metallic silver lamé beaded appliqued deco palm on ruched silk jersey. I love the seductive fully-boned sweetheart plunge bodice with sparkling rhinestone straps. The matching full-length silk chiffon over jacket is so fresh and strikingly modern. The nipped-waist, hourglass front high-slit design finishes this garment off with the perfect "femme fatale" vibe. As Damon, Yma Sumac's personal assistant, told me, "Yma herself was behind the making of any of her custom made clothes. She loved elegance mixed with a touch of exotic. I was fascinated to see how much effort was put into each piece and the contraptions she had added inside for the perfect physique no matter what her age or weight at the time." A piece like this is one-of-a-kind and a true piece of celebrity history.
