A simply beautiful Pierre Balmain haute couture silk-brocade evening gown dating back to his fall-winter 1963 collection. As shown, we were thrilled to find the original illustration and Bergdorf Goodman client order label. Pierre Balmain worked under Robert Pigiuet, Molyneux, and Lucian Lelong, where he worked closely with Christian Dior. In 1945 he finally opened his own couture house. Balmain created a very sculptural quality which was always allied with a ladylike essence. His garments have a body and a shape of their own. This breathtaking metallic pale pink silk-brocade evening gown is a wonderful example of his genius. The strapless bodice has a stunning built-in boned corset interior which helps help the shape flawlessly. Just look at the lovely wrap around waist sash detail. The nipped waist silhouette really flatters the figure. Overall construction is true couture level as one would expect from such a skilled design house. Balmain's glamorous garments were worn by the likes of Bridget Bardot, Katherine Hepburn and Marlene Dietrich and I can surely see why.
