  • 1975 Gina Fratini Elizabeth Taylor Wedding Ombre Design Chiffon Bohemian Dress

Breathtaking 1975 Gina Fratini Couture rainbow ombre silk-chiffon caftan dress which happened to also be Elizabeth Taylor's choice design for her wedding to Richard Burton. Gina Fratini, a British designer who was influenced by her childhood in the Middle East, defined London during the 1970's along with others such as Zandra Rhodes, Ossie Clark and Barbara Hulaniki. Fratini introduced more relaxed clothes to great success, stating, “There’s nothing more fascinating than a woman flowing instead of walking.” This stunning caftan dress is a perfect example of his genius. The fabric itself is a masterpiece; rainbow ombre lined silk-chiffon with long, wood beaded and feather trimmed silk streamers. I adore the basket-weave style patchwork empire made from silk dupioni diamonds in iridescent shimmering tones of orange, green and blue. Taylor’s actual Gina Fratini wedding dress was auctioned off by Christie’s in 2011 for $62,500. That in itself truely makes this design a fashion collector’s dream and an amazing acquisition for channeling Taylor’s vibe for any special occasion. The free flowing angel-sleeve silhouette makes this garment so comfortable and effortless to wear!

    Measurements
    Bust: 33-34 inches
    Hips: up to 38 inches
    Sleeve Length: 46 inches
    Dress Length: 56 inches

This Gina Fratini designer caftan dress is in excellent condition with no holes, rips or fade. The feathers, beads and streamers are preserved beautifully. Only signs of wear are faint spots to the rainbow chiffon which blend in due to the ombre technique. The front patchwork silk empire fabric is free from any flaws. Perfectly working back metal-zipper in place. The garment is fully-lined and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
