  • 1983 Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld Sequin Pleated Black Silk Crepe High-Low Gown w/ Matching Jacket

    ID: 0702252
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

An ultra rare and incredibly chic Chanel by Karl Lagerfeld documented runway pleated silk crepe high-low dress with matching over jacket from his epic 1983 fall/winter collection. Chanel is known to be one of the most luxurious and decadent fashion houses in the world. Though Karl Lagerfeld sadly passed away in 2019, he left behind such an impressive legacy in fashion. From his start as Pierre Balmain's assistant back in 1955, to the astounding impact he made after taking over Chanel in 1983, Lagerfeld's varied career has encompassed so many highlights. When he became creative director of Chanel he didn't abandon Chanel's vision for his own, but instead Karl Lagerfeld considered himself the 'channeler' of Coco. As such, he would reinterpret and rejuvenate the iconic designs of Coco Chanel, inserting ready-to-wear into popular culture. This important archival find is from Lagerfeld’s second collection for the house, and it truly stands the test of time. The luxurious fabric is magnificent; made from the softest black silk crepe. A rounded neckline embellished with black sequins catches the light with every movement and is mirrored throughout the bodice in sparkling vertical lines alongside fine micro pleating. This rich detail helps elongate the figure, creating an ultra-flattering silhouette. The nipped waist flows into a dramatic high-low skirting.  I love the dramatic back train that is finished with the dazzling sequins along the hemline. The skirt movement is truly spectacular. The matching light-weight jacket is cropped just above the waist and when fastened at the top, leaves the beautiful bodice on display. A truly timeless, well-documented Chanel look that will instantly become a forever favorite.
