An absolutely spectacular, museum quality Pierre Cardin haute couture emerald green 'leaf' strapless bustier gown dating back to his spring-summer 1987 collection. In 1951 Cardin opened his own couture house and by 1957, he started a ready-to-wear line; a bold move for a French couturier at the time. Cardin is known for his avant-garde style and his unique geometric shapes, often ignoring the female form. This ultra rare sculptural look is a perfect example of his genuine. The construction of this garment is amazing- yards of luxurious mid-weight emerald green silk linen, also referred to as silk matka, with an impressive wired interior to help keep the gorgeous shape. This gorgeous shade of green was also Pierre Cardin's favorite color. I love the pointed boned bustier hourglass nipped waist strapless design. The full length two tiered skirt with complex stand-up ruffled overlay, resembling a leaf, is wearable art at its finest. This gown is vintage fashion on the highest level with everything about the piece done to work with the rest. A beautiful example of haute couture history that looks like it just walked off the Paris runway.
