The House of Dior has been an enduring icon of Haute-Couture. While the House of Dior is still a thriving business today, Dior's untimely death in 1957 left the fashion world without a great dictator of style. Christian Dior designed under his own name for only a decade, but his influence is everlasting. When the talented Gianfranco Ferré took over as head designer, he continued the Dior tradition of elegant design. This beautiful full-length evening jacket, which was featured in his 1989-1990 Fall/Winter collection and famously worn by Sonia Cole, is a perfect example of his talent. The fabrics used for this garment are breathtaking; navy heavy silk taffeta with a "light as a feather" sheer polka-dot silk overlay . The elegant bodice has wide round lapels, loose and voluminous with billowing bishop sleeves. The belted sash-waist with flowing princess trained skirting is a wonderful nod to 1940's traditional femme-fatale construction. As Dior once said, "Elegance must be the right combination of distinction, naturalness, care and simplicity." This couture documented treasure is a wonderful mix of these elements.
