  • 1992 Gianni Versace 'Miss S & M' Runway Collection Ivory Wool Studded Leather Editorial Jacket

    ID: 1007262
    Size: medium
    Condition: excellent

This iconic Gianni Versace ivory wool studded leather jacket dates back to his unforgettable fall/winter 1992 collection. This legendary 'Miss S&M' collection remains one of Gianni’s most provocative and recognizable, with Vogue writing, “These high-maintenance looks were meant to be seen, not in a dungeon somewhere, but on the red carpet, where they absolutely dominated.” The jacket walked the runway as Look 52 on Gianni’s muse and confidante, supermodel Naomi Campbell, who also wore it for the season’s advertising campaign. Fashioned from the highest quality, fully-lined wool in a light cream hue, it has strong shoulders and slightly tapers at the waist with curved seaming that beautifully shapes the body. Six large faceted black buttons bordered in tiny gold jewels fasten down the front. It is the edgy black leather detailing that makes this piece stand out. The pointed collar, four flap pockets and deep cuffs are covered with an intricate assortment of gold studs arranged into sweeping bands and geometric patterns. Medusa-head medallions appear throughout, including the silver accents on the engraved gold-tone metal corner guards along all edges. The cuffs are especially fantastic, giving the jacket an unexpected western-meets-punk aesthetic that feels quintessentially Gianni. Against the cream wool, all that black leather and gleaming gold makes an incredible statement. The lower pockets are fully functional, though their original interior basting stitches remain intact, meaning they have never even been opened or used! This is a special lifetime Gianni Versace collector’s piece from one of the most important collections of his career, made even more desirable by its documentation. Wear it with black leather pants as we have, pair it with a mini skirt and tall boots, or take on the ultimate archival hunt and track down the original embellished pants for the complete runway ensemble. However you style it, you get to wear a piece from one of the most celebrated chapters in Versace history.
