A gorgeous pink silk-satin gown custom made by Bob Mackie for Julia Louis-Dreyfus to wear for the 1998 Emmy Awards. That night she was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Seinfeld, which was also nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. Bob Mackie began his career as a Hollywood costuming sketch artist, working for both Edith Head and Jean Louis. While working with designer Ray Aghayan, Mackie soon began creating evening clothing for the divas who would make him a household name- most notably Carol Burnett, Diana Ross and Cher. This breathtaking gown is a perfect example of his genius. The fabrics are a masterpiece; fully-lined pink silk satin and sparkling silver lamé lace. I love the ruched corset style with seductive scooped plunge. The hourglass nipped waist with stylized front swag and pleated lamé lace hemline totally channels that Old Hollywood look Bob Mackie is so famous for. The back is just as beautiful as the front with fabric-covered buttons and skirted train. A dress like this is a one-of-a-kind designer couture treasure and a true piece of celebrity fashion history.
