This ultra-chic and very rare Christian Dior documented ivory white crepe fringed-bib dress dates back to John Galliano's beloved 1998 resort collection. We were thrilled to also find images of the couture version from his 1997 s/s collection. John Galliano became creative director at Dior in 1996, bringing his theatrical vision and historical references to the house. His tenure reenergized Dior, blending couture-level craftsmanship with a sense of narrative and romance that defined late 1990s fashion.
This dreamy runway look is cut from a beautiful mid-weight ivory viscose crepe fully lined in silk, giving it a smooth feel against the skin. The silhouette is clean and lightly skimming, falling to a flattering cocktail length that moves with ease. The sleeveless design keeps the focus on the neckline and shoulders, while a soft line through the body allows you to feel both polished and relaxed. Fine white fringe along the bottom hem adds such a nice finishing touch. The bodice construction is where Galliano truly shines. Both the front and back scooped necklines feature an attached draped bib collar, edged entirely in the same delicate fringe. Both ends tie at the shoulders, creating a charming detail. A concealed side zipper along with two hooks at one shoulder allow you to slip it on and off with ease. Early Galliano-era Dior designs, especially documented examples, are becoming increasingly difficult to find. This dress feels so versatile—ideal for a bridal moment or a summer soiree. A truly special hard-to-find Dior!
