  • 1999 John Galliano ‘Ballets Russes’ Collection Ivory Silk Ruched Bias-Cut Trained Slip Gown

    ID: 1022263
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

This extremely rare and exceptionally beautiful John Galliano spring/summer 1999 ivory silk bias-cut trained gown would make such an epic bridal look! During the late 1990s, Galliano became celebrated for his romantic designs, drawing inspiration from historical dress and his mastery of silhouette. His vintage pieces have become incredibly sought-after, particularly his iconic bridal-worthy gowns, making this a fantastic chance for our brides-to-be.

Fashioned from luminous ivory silk with a matching silk lining, the gown features Galliano's classic bias-cut silhouette, beautifully skimming the figure before giving way to an unexpected draped skirt. Of course, Galliano always knew how to add a little drama! The skirt is ingeniously tacked and gathered to one side just below the knee, creating cascading folds that give the otherwise sleek design a fabulous 1930s-inspired twist. This distinctive ruched treatment appeared on several looks from his s/s 1999 runway collection, making it a wonderful signature of the season. Delicate spaghetti straps support a softly draped cowl neckline, while expertly placed seams shape the bodice and accentuate the waist. The back is equally beautiful in its simplicity, leaving your shoulders and upper back bare, with a concealed center zipper maintaining the sleek finish. But the real surprise is the incredible length of silk extending from the back of the skirt into a sweeping train that pools behind you. Brilliantly, he made it so the train can be hooked up off the ground, allowing you to enjoy the full effect for your ceremony before lifting it when it's time to dance the night away at your reception.

For anyone dreaming of an early Galliano bridal gown, it really doesn't get much better than this. You will be wearing an important piece of fashion history that feels every bit as exciting today as it did back when it was created. And let's be real, what could be more special than saying 'I do' in archival Galliano?
