  • 2000 John Galliano Beaded Black Sheer Silk Chiffon & Red Satin Draped Bias-Cut Gown

    ID: 0727261
    Size: small - medium
    Condition: excellent

This incredibly chic John Galliano beaded black sheer silk & red satin bias-cut gown dates back to his noteworthy 2000 spring/summer 2000 collection. While simultaneously working as Creative Director at Christian Dior, Galliano continued producing ambitious collections under his own label, proving that his extraordinary creativity extended far beyond the legendary French maison. These early days of his personal brand became known for fluid bias-cut silhouettes, inventive fabric combinations, and unparalleled artistry.

Cut on the bias, the gown skims every curve; moving effortlessly with the body. An opaque ruby-red silk satin slip lies beneath a whisper-light black silk chiffon exterior, creating a deep oxblood sheen that shifts subtly as the light changes. The result feels almost liquid, with remarkable depth and dimension that photographs beautifully from every angle. Then the real drama emerges in the details. The softly draped cowl neckline gives way to an intricate constellation of jet beads, sequins, and polished cabochon-like embellishments that appear almost scattered by hand. The ornamentation trails organically across the bodice, continuing up the gradually narrowed shoulders into delicate beaded spaghetti straps. Our favorite design element is found at the skirt. Along the right side, the chiffon overlay is gracefully lifted and secured with three decorative covered buttons, revealing the lustrous red layer beneath. It is a deceptively simple draped detail, yet one that completely transforms the silhouette and showcases his remarkable understanding of fabric and motion. This era of John Galliano remains among the most coveted by collectors, with designs prized for their effortless balance of innovation and wearability. More than twenty-five years later, this gown feels just as relevant and captivating—a testament to his ability to create fashion that transcends fleeting trends.
