  • 2003 Christian Dior by John Galliano Ruby Red Silk Low Cut Draped High Slit Bias-Cut Dress

    ID: 0913261
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

This ultra seductive 2003 fall/winter Christian Dior ruby red silk-satin dress is such a perfect example of John Galliano's genius. Galliano’s designs for Dior were coveted when they first appeared, and more than two decades later they have only become more sought-after for their extraordinary craftsmanship and distinctive beauty. Alicia Silverstone wore the same dress to the 2004 BAFTA Awards, Michelle Rodriguez appeared in it at the Miramax/Glamour Golden Globe After Party that same year, and supermodel Helena Christensen wore it in a different color when she and Kate Moss were photographed at a Paris fashion show showcasing Galliano designs in June 2003. With that kind of history, the dress is instantly iconic.

Cut from luminous ruby red silk-satin, the vibrant color alone grabs your attention. The flattering bias cut follows all the curves of the body, while a daring thigh-high slit opens as you walk or pose for a photo op. A plunging low cut neckline leaves plenty of skin exposed and draws the eye toward the intricate work at the center bodice. Two separate panels begin at the shoulders, gathering into narrow pleats as they drape diagonally across the bust and overlap at the center front. The draping continues toward the hip, where the satin weaves through a knotted detail just above the slit. The construction is so ingenious it almost appears as though the bodice panel itself has traveled through the dress before finally tying itself into a knot. At the reverse, wide shoulder straps plunge into a deep V, leaving your back beautifully open and adding another alluring element to the gown. This glamorous Christian Dior dress was perfect for the red carpet in 2004, and it would be even more epic on one today.
