  • 2004 Alexander McQueen Lifetime Runway Pink Silk Cut-Out Ruffle Gown

A truly breathtaking and highly coveted Alexander McQueen ballerina slipper pink silk charmeuse cut-out ruffle sleeve gown dating back to his iconic 2004 spring-summer collection. As shown, this gorgeous well-documented dress was runway look #20. Vogue stated about this collection, "It takes a showman like Alexander McQueen to get the lifeblood pumping back into fashion performance. In the opening scene, the girls entered—dancing for all they were worth on the arms of muscle-bound sailors and hunky hopefuls—dressed in fishtailed silver lamé, figure-hugging cha-cha dresses, and show-stopping gowns with spangled bodices and huge feathered skirts. Other competitors whirled on wearing pink corseted tulle tutus over gray ballet sweats; mint satin tap-suits; or a slinky confection of gray checkerboard chiffon. A Billie Holiday look-alike, dramatically vamping in pink charmeuse and ostrich, vied for attention as flashy bodysuited showgirls were energetically twirled aloft by their partners." Alexander McQueen was known for combining superb tailoring with a dramatic aesthetic inspired by various historical periods and it's clear this dress is a beautiful nod to the late 1930's. This highly stylized gown is such a perfect example of why the magic of Alexander McQueen is so missed. The low-plunge bodice has draped ruffle sleeves with a fantastic front twisted knot design. Just look at the chic side cut-outs backside construction. I love how it flows into a seductive fitted bias-cut full length skirting with the chicest gathered hemline for even more drama. We added many pictures so you can appreciate this iconic museum quality treasure.
