  • 2004 Alexander McQueen ‘Pantheon ad Lucem’ Orchid Print Silk Strapless Bustier Gown

    ID: 0517252
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

An incredibly elegant and truly collectible Alexander McQueen orchid print silk strapless bustier gown dating back to his highly praised 2004 fall-winter collection called ‘Pantheon ad Lucem’. Alexander McQueen is known for his genius at fusing meticulous tailoring with hauntingly beautiful and often provocative narratives. McQueen was also a master at blending sharp craftsmanship with a dark, poetic aesthetic that drew inspiration from historical and cultural references, as well as a fascination with the intersection of beauty and darkness. His collections were as much about storytelling as they were about the clothes themselves—each piece part of an intricate visual dialogue that reflected his bold, fearless vision. Inspired by ideas of rebirth, ancient Greek garments and science fiction films, this collection focused on sleek draped, wrapped, or tied designs. For this collection he stated in his own words that he stripped away "all theatrics and focused purely on design." This rare runway gown, look 49 modeled by the incomparable Gemma Ward, is a shining example of McQueen's genius. Expertly crafted in a luxurious fully-lined midnight blue silk, the fabric cascades and drapes with delicate precision, giving the gown movement and dimension from every angle. The sweetheart strapless neckline is defined by an interior hidden bustier corset, sculpting the figure and offering the kind of couture-level support that marked the house's notorious craftsmanship. A dramatic yellow double orchid print blooms across the gown and the way the color pops against the sheen of the dark blue, makes it appear as if the flower is floating. The full length skirting gathers at the floor and lightly drapes to create a statuesque look when standing still. This archival piece is a rare convergence of femininity, structure, and drama; hallmarks of Alexander McQueen’s visionary aesthetic. An iconic lifetime McQueen gown perfect for any event where you want to turn heads and make a lasting impression.
