  • 2004 Christian Dior by John Galliano Rare Sample Metallic Silk Lamé Bias-Cut High Slit Gown

    ID: 0226263
    Size: small
    Condition: excellent

This truly breathtaking and highly coveted Christian Dior metallic silk lamé bias-cut gown dates back to John Galliano's stunning 2004 fall/winter collection. A master of theatrical storytelling, Galliano revived Dior's heritage with a bold, cinematic vision. His tenure fused historic references with modern sensuality, reestablishing Dior as the epicenter of high fashion at the turn of the millennium and leaving an indelible mark on red carpet dressing. Although not seen on the runway, this rare French sample is executed in the same light-weight metallic lamé fabric used for Look 16 of the collection—an opalescent silver with a whisper of champagne that shifts beautifully under light. Cut on the bias, the gown skims the body with fluid precision, tracing the waist and hips before falls into a sweeping, floor-length silhouette, where the fabric pools to the floor like liquid silver. The high front slit elongates the leg and introduces movement with every step. Galliano’s signature side covered buttons run delicately along the side, a subtle nod to 1930s couture techniques he so often reinterpreted. The true focal point is the bodice with criss-crossing straps twisting across the torso. The placement is intentional, framing the décolletage while drawing the eye inward to the waist. When you turn around the drama continues. The straps intersect again across the upper back in mirrored knots, their sculptural twists create a striking sense of tension that beautifully contrasts with the gown’s fluid drape. Perfect for any evening event; the light catches the metallic glow and all eyes follow. An increasingly scarce example of John Galliano’s legacy, this gown embodies the romance and precision that defined his extraordinary chapter at the House of Dior.

    Measurements
    (varies due to bias-cut)
    Bust: 30-34 inches
    Waist: 22-26 inches
Hips: best up to 36 inches

This archival 2004 f/w Christian Dior by John Galliano metallic silk lamé prototype gown is in beautiful condition with no stains, rips or discoloration. The dress closes with a series of side covered buttons. The only sign of wear is a few pinholes that are not noticeable when worn. A truly spectacular gown and an investment piece that will continue to increase in value.
