An incredibly chic and highly coveted Chanel crystal beaded sheer metallic silver and gold paisley-motif lamé lace dress dating back to Karl Lagerfeld's epic pre-fall "Bombay-Paris" collection. This gorgeous garment was runway look #46 modeled by the beautiful Melissa Tammerijn. This 2012 Chanel Metiers d'Art show was an Indian-themed collection that took place in the Grand Palais. The theme "Paris-Bombay" was a reminder that Europe's fashion industry has increasingly turned to India to produce extravagantly hand crafted pieces as it has become prohibitively expensive to make them at home. Lagerfeld's fiendish plan was to flip the equation, so that everything that looked intricately Indian was actually made by Chanel's ateliers in Paris. It was also a salute to the work of the craftspeople who make Chanel happen, including the recently passed François Lesage.
Not only is this well-documented look an important archival runway treasure, it also embodies glamorous luxury. This masterpiece of a dress is fashioned in shimmering mixed metallic silver and gold lace that is left intentionally sheer from the bottom down. There is a stunning nude mini slip under so at first glance you look completely naked under the metallic lace. The finest French crystals are mixed with opulent iridescent beadwork in bold panels throughout. The minimalist sleeveless fitted column shape really lets the sensational workmanship shine. A truly iconic, instantly recognizable Chanel that would make an epic wedding guest or red carpet moment.
