Breathtaking Pierre Balmain Haute-Couture runway dress from when Erik Mortensen was head designer. The House of Balmain always creates a very sculptural quality which is allied with a ladylike essence. This ivory and black striped duchess satin gown from this 1987 spring/summer collection is a wonderful example of his genius. The sleeveless bodice has gorgeous slightly padded shoulders which give a strength to the silhouette. The chic drop-waist tiered ruffle wave organza really catches the eye and takes the idea of a red carpet gown to new levels. Overall construction is true couture level as one would expect from such a skilled fashion house. A timeless museum quality show-stopper.
