Undiminished by time, this black silk-chiffon couture dress, dating back to around 1929-31, still casts it's magical spell. This exceptional French beauty is fashioned in the highest quality semi-sheer lined black silk that has been carefully embellished with three dimensional hand beaded rhinestone jeweled flowers. I love the gorgeous draped flutter sleeve low-back bodice that is met by a built-in waist belt. The skirting has complex couture seamed stitching that is insanely hard to do on bias-cut fabric. This figure flattering garment accentuates the bust, skims the hip and flares out with beautiful flair. We needed to add many detail pictures so one can appreciate the masterful achievement. Extravagant garments from the 1930's remain a perennial favorite, perhaps because no other period combined such opulence with such effortless elegance. The pictures really say it all.

This early 1930's French couture dress is in excellent wearable condition with no stains, holes or discoloration. From our research, we wouldn't be surprised if this creation was by a famous designer such as Chanel or Lanvin as it has all the hallmarks of a couture piece from this era. Slips on over the head with two sets of hand-set side metal closures. Hand-stitching throughout. Only signs of age is some minor pulls to the silk and one little tear by the waist hook.
